IUCN Status: Critically Endangered
The pangolins are the most poached and illegally trafficked animal in the world. They are hunted for their skin, meat and scales. Their meat are considered a delicacy in Asian countries, while their scales are thought to be charms that can fight against fever and other sickness.
The population of these elusive creatures are quickly dwindling and in crisis of extinction.
We can help by being more aware of the food we eat when we are abroad. Avoid purchasing their scales as charms or souvenirs, and say no to any products made from exotic leather.
