IUCN Status: Vulnerable.
With China's efforts to breed pandas in captivity, the Giant Panda status has successfully changed from "Endangered" to "Vulnerable" in 2016. There are approximately more than 1800 individuals in the wild and in captivity.
With China's rapid expansion, Giant Pandas have been driven out from the lowlands and moved up into the Himalayan Mountains, due to forest degradation. There are approximately 27 individuals that live outside of China, in the surrounding countries.
